The BC Wolves have announced that head coach Kęstutis Kemzūra will be leaving his post. The decision to terminate his contract was made via mutual agreement from both parties.
The basketball tactician joined the team’s coaching staff in March of last year, towards the end of the club’s debut season. Under his leadership, the Wolves won the Silver trophy in the European North Basketball League (ENBL).
“Taking this step was not easy. However, the recent play of our team was unsatisfactory to both the coaching staff and the club managers, and the results did not reflect its capabilities in any way. We believe that the team can play much better. Therefore, after speaking with K. Kemzūra, we came to a common decision that changes are necessary for the team to move forward. We thank him for his professional work and historic victories for the club both in the national championship and in the European Cup tournament, and we wish him the greatest success in the future”, explained Wolves sports director Donatas Zavackas.
The Vilnius-based team will now be mentored by Nedas Pacevičius, who worked as an assistant in K. Kemzura’s staff.
“We are monitoring the market of both players and coaches, but at the moment we have decided to give N. Pacevičius a chance. We hope that this club decision will have a positive impact on the team’s game”, said D. Zavackas.
The BC Wolves will try to erase a 19-point deficit in the return match of the Citadele KMT quarter-final series against BC Žalgiris in Kaunas on Sunday evening.
